Hey LovePoppershop lovers! We invest in our pleasure, so it only makes sense to invest a little time in caring for our favourite toys. Proper cleaning, maintenance, and storage aren’t just about hygiene (though that’s super important!) – they extend the life of your gear, keep it performing perfectly, and ensure every experience is safe and sensational. Let’s dive into keeping your collection in top condition!
Why Care Matters:
- Health First:Â Prevents bacterial, fungal, or viral infections. Your body deserves a clean surface!
- Longevity:Â Protects materials from breaking down, cracking, or degrading prematurely.
- Performance:Â Ensures motors run smoothly, surfaces stay supple, and electronics function reliably.
- Value:Â Makes your investment last longer.
Material Matters: Know Your Gear!
- Silicone (The Gold Standard):
- Cleaning: Super easy! Wash thoroughly with warm water and mild, fragrance-free soap or a dedicated toy cleaner after every use. Boil for 3-5 minutes (check manufacturer instructions first!) or soak in a 10% bleach solution (rinse EXTREMELY well!) for deep sterilization. Dishwasher safe (top rack) only if explicitly stated.
- Avoid:Â Silicone-based lubes! They can damage silicone toys over time. Stick to water-based or hybrid lubes. Harsh chemicals or alcohol.
- Storage:Â Dry completely. Store away from direct sunlight. Silicone can sometimes stick to itself, so store individually or use storage bags/pouches.
- Metal (Stainless Steel, Aluminum, Glass):
- Cleaning:Â Non-porous champions! Wash with warm water and soap. Can be boiled or soaked in a 10% bleach solution for thorough sterilization. Glass can often go in the dishwasher.
- Avoid:Â Avoid dropping glass! Check metal toys for nicks or scratches (discard if damaged).
- Storage:Â Dry completely. Store securely to prevent dings. Temperature stable.
- TPE/TPR (Fleshy Feel, Common for Strokers & Some Dildos):
- Cleaning: More porous, so needs extra care. Wash immediately after use with warm water and mild soap/toy cleaner. Cannot be fully sterilized like silicone or metal. Avoid boiling or bleach.
- Avoid:Â Silicone-based lubes (can degrade material). Sharing porous toys between partners is not recommended.
- Storage: CRUCIAL: Dry thoroughly inside and out to prevent mould (use a clean cloth or tissue inside cavities if needed). Store in a breathable bag or container in a cool, dry place. Powder with cornstarch occasionally to maintain texture. Has a shorter lifespan than silicone/metal – replace if it smells, discolours, or feels tacky even after cleaning.
- Hard Plastic/Acrylic:
- Cleaning:Â Wash with warm water and soap. Can often be wiped with rubbing alcohol (check first) or soaked in mild bleach solution. Usually non-porous.
- Avoid:Â Very hot water can warp some plastics.
- Storage:Â Dry completely. Store securely.
Battery & Electronic Care (Vibrators, etc.):
- Remove Batteries:Â If not using for an extended period, REMOVE the batteries! Leaking batteries can destroy your toy.
- Rechargeables:Â Follow manufacturer charging instructions. Don’t overcharge. Use the correct charger.
- Waterproof? Check the IP rating! “Splashproof” ≠“Submersible”. Only clean according to its rating. Never charge while wet.
- Connection Points:Â Keep charging ports/contacts clean and dry. Avoid getting lube in them.
Storage Savvy:
- Cool, Dark, Dry:Â Heat, sunlight, and humidity degrade materials and electronics. A drawer, cupboard, or dedicated storage box is ideal.
- Keep ‘Em Separated:Â Store toys so they aren’t touching each other, especially different materials (e.g., silicone next to TPE can cause reactions). Use individual storage bags, pouches, or wraps (like cotton or microfiber).
- Lube & Accessories:Â Store lube bottles upright, away from heat and light. Keep condoms in a cool, dry place, not a wallet.
A Note on Poppers / Aroma (Alkyl Nitrites):
While not a “toy” in the traditional sense, many of our customers enjoy the intense experience poppers provide. Safety is paramount:
- Never Ingest:Â Poppers are for inhalation ONLY.
- Skin Contact:Â AVOID direct skin contact, especially with mucous membranes or near the eyes. Can cause severe irritation or chemical burns. If spilled, wash immediately with copious soap and water.
- Ventilation:Â Always use in a well-ventilated area.
- Flammable:Â Keep away from flames, cigarettes, and intense heat sources.
- Storage:Â Store upright in their original, tightly sealed bottle, in a cool, dark place (a cupboard is perfect). Keep out of reach of children and pets.
- Expiry:Â Discard poppers that are past their expiry date or if the liquid is discoloured. Effectiveness diminishes, and chemical composition can change.
- Medications: CRITICAL: Poppers can have dangerous interactions with medications, especially ED medications like Viagra (Sildenafil), Cialis (Tadalafil), or Levitra (Vardenafil). This combination can cause a severe drop in blood pressure, leading to stroke, heart attack, or death. NEVER mix poppers with these medications.
